Jaguar has waved the ‘R’ performance wand over its four door flagship to create the powerhouse XJR sedan.
A pumped up version of the blown 5.0-litre V8 is plucked from the XK-RS and slipped under the XJ’s bonnet, churning out 405kW/680Nm, up eight and nine percent respectively over the standard (AJ-V8) engine.
The third generation version of this all alloy monster mill features precise, spray guided direct injection, variable valve timing, and a roots type, twin-intercooled, twin-vortex supercharger, nestled in the centre of the engine’s vee. An active exhaust system manages flow. Expect 0-100km/h in 4.5 sec.
Suspension is upgraded to a continually variable adaptive damping system. Steering is reworked to enhance feel and reduce sensitivity at high speed.
As well as the rims, the XJR is differentiated by unique body elements, including twin bonnet louvers inscribed with Supercharged script. Side sill extensions and a new front bumper design.
